Blogosphere
Condemned to the 6th Circle of Hell

Definition:

The totality of blogs, especially the unique jargons, cultures and shared interests created by their interconnection.

(from Wiktionary)

“Blogosphere” refers to a cultural Internet phenomenon. The increased interactivity of the World Wide Web has brought about a method of publishing that is enabling some Internet idiots to post about the bowel movements of their cats, all the while distracting the rest of the observing world from excellent content that is being published elsewhere. The promulgation of the term “blogosphere” is letting these unfortunate minds of our time think that we care.

  9. 9
    Christian Montoya Says:

“Blogosphere” implies that we all get along… it’s not realistic. We fight and argue, and agree to disagree… we are just as coarse as in the physical world.

Still, the worst part about buzzwords like these is they are so hard to avoid using… sometimes I use it anyway, just because it sounds so dumb :)

  10. 10
    Vidar Says:

    Burn it. Burn them all.
“Weblog” and all of its derivates make me sick to my stomach and should suffer a very horrible death.

  11. 11
    Brian Says:

  19. 19
    Michael Says:

Blog from Web Log which became weblog “osphere” is a third grader’s attempt at sounding highly educated. Why must we call it a blog or blogging? it is just a glorified BBS like we used to share intersts and comments on in the early 1980’s, nothing new here but the addition of pictures.

    stop re-inventing the wheel

    Charles in Cleveland Says:

If Einstein had a blog, it would be interesting to read his stream of consciousness.
When Larry, Curley and Moe blog, there’s too much attachment to empty opinions and not enough research.
Is it the word or how blogs are used?

  21. 21

This is truly a terrible word.

  22. 22
    Matt Says:

An annoying term, but accurate in how it brings up an image of an area in the upper atmopshere where things that are overinflated with hot air eventually burst into nothingness.

  23. 23
    Aaron Says:

They’ve all pretty much said it, but I’m submitting my two cents just to increase the hatred of the word statistically. The word “blogosphere” is only useful to show how little the person who says it knows about the internet. No one who knows what they’re talking about uses it. Terrible.

  24. 24
    Ja Says:

@19: Actually, BBS’ were more useful and fostered communication much more than blogs ever will.

I had taken to calling the blogo-whatever the “blogamid” due to its pyramid scheme hierarchy type nature… nothing spherical about it.

    So I must agree, condemned.
